I created these illustrations for the four parts composing a PhD thesis: Introduction, Results, Discussion and Materials & Methods. Additionally, I made the layout of the entire thesis.
The International Nucleome Consortium (INC) is a network established to connect diverse scientific experts (« biologists, physicists, mathematician, statisticians, data scientists » ). This network was funded by the European COST action which is a cooperation in science and technology. INC is mainly focusing on building the bridge between basic research related to nuclear architecture and its application in « health, agriculture and industry » . Briefly, nuclear architecture refers to the three-dimensional structure that adopts DNA in each cell nucleus. This structure plays a major role on the activity (expression) of our genes. Hence, understanding the molecular mechanisms behind the establishment of nuclear architecture will elucidate their potential implication in related diseases and beyond. With this ambition, INC network has four years to « accelerate scientific breakthroughs leading to new concepts, innovative interdisciplinary » in their field.
I wish them good luck, and I was glad to collaborate with them for the design of their logo.
The visual identity of International Nucleome Consortium (INC) followed 3 objectives:
to distinguish itself from other scientific networks while remaining professional in line with the field of research, convey an image of modernity, create a visual with a strong impact easy to memorize (especially for the Twitter account).
Finally, a logo showing the institutional codes with a contemporary and original typography has been created.

The UTOPIA catalogue is a handbook, published in the Rhône Alpes region. I created (for the season 2018 / 2019) the front cover illustrations as well as several other illustrations in the catalogue. I created the grids for the catalogue layout and for the three various covers. My illustrations had to reflect the different topics covered by the catalogue articles. With this new design, the catalogue gives itself a new and fresh image which was particularly attractive for younger audience.
Initially, Sarah Hurtado-Bagès shared with me her project related to scientific dissemination. With her boss, she imagined two different illustration to explain their work. I illustrated her work, inspirited by her draft.
Two meters of DNA is compacted in each of your cells, CRAZY!!! isn’t it???
This compaction is made by small guys with weird names… as « macroH2A ». In her lab, they discovered that macroH2A influenced how your cells will eat properly. How does it work? well… macroH2A likes to closely interact, if you know what I mean…, with another guy: PARP1. This interaction is so intense that PARP1 does not care about food anymore = « PARP1! go on a diet NOW! »
In this case, cellular food is sustained by another guy: NAD+… little info just for you to know 🙂
Here comes the good news!!! If PARP1 does not eat too much, your cells can eat much better. Tadammmm this is how macroH2A takes care of our little cells.

For the first illustration, the histone variant macroH2A was represented as a bollard keeping PARP1 boat away from the powerhouse of the cells: the mitochondria boat
For the second illustration, Sarah imagined a world of poker and gangster.
I chose to turn characters into fantastic figures. The goal was to give them physical peculiarities related to their real function in the cell.
MacroH2A is represented as a poker dealer, regulating the distribution of NAD+ «poker card». Although PARP1 tries to steal NAD+ card, macroH2A is here to control the game. Thus, mitochondria are protected and remain in the game. I represented the face of the mitochondria character similar to its particular membranes… if you have no idea how it looks: google research « mitochondria », and look at how mitochondria membranes are sexy.
